An electric coil or glass-top element that stays cold, heats only partway, or works on some settings can involve the element itself, its connection or wiring, the burner switch, or the control. We test each part to find which one has failed before replacing anything.
A gas burner that clicks without lighting, or keeps clicking with the knob off, can be as simple as moisture left after cleaning, or it can point to a fault in the ignition system. GE Appliances’ guide to clicking surface burners lists what the manufacturer suggests checking first. If that does not help, we test the ignition parts.
A burner that runs too hot on every setting, will not hold a simmer, or cycles unpredictably may have a problem with the burner switch, the element, the gas valve, or the control. On induction cooktops, cookware that is not induction-compatible can cause similar symptoms, so we check that too.
A blank display, unresponsive touch controls, or a stove that will not power on can come from the home’s power supply, the appliance wiring, or the control itself. Note any error code on the display; it helps us prepare. We trace the fault before recommending a part.
A stove repair visit has four steps: you describe the problem, we test the stove at your home, you approve the price, and we complete the repair under warranty.

If you smell gas, get everyone out of the house right away and call the gas utility or 911 once you’re outside. A gas odor is an emergency for your gas utility, not a routine repair call. BGE’s guidance is direct: if you smell gas, inside or outside, leave the area immediately and go to a safe place where you can call BGE at 877-778-7798. Its gas leak response page explains what its technicians do when an odor is reported. If another company supplies your gas, call its emergency number instead.
Once the utility has made the area safe and the problem has been traced to the stove, call us at 240-484-0269 to diagnose and repair the appliance. Gas lines and burner valves are a job for a trained technician, not a DIY fix. It is also worth searching the CPSC recall database for your model, because a recalled range or cooktop may qualify for a remedy from the manufacturer.

Clicking that continues with the knob off, or after the burner is lit, can follow a spill or cleaning that left moisture around the igniter, or it can mean a fault in the ignition system. If it does not stop once the cooktop has dried, call us for a diagnosis. Smell gas near the range? Leave the house first, then call the gas utility or 911 from outside.
The element itself, its connection or wiring, the burner switch, or the control can all cause it. An element that heats on some settings but not others can point to the switch or the control. We test each part before replacing anything.
Induction only heats compatible cookware: if a magnet doesn’t stick to the bottom of the pan, it won’t heat. If compatible cookware still won’t heat, the cooktop’s controls or power components need testing.
